Viking i-8 Manuals & Support

The Viking i-8 is an in-ground 24 VDC swing gate operator with a separate control box. The operator sits in a chassis set in concrete under the gate, so nothing shows above the drive.

It handles gates up to 12 ft and 650 lb and runs on the VFlex control board.

Identify your model

The i-8 chassis is set in concrete below the gate hinge. The control box is above ground. Second generation units (2019 manual) use the VFlex board. First generation units (2009) use an older board and manual.

Troubleshooting

Press the Diagnose button to scroll the LCD. Error messages show first, and the Diagnose LED flashes once for each error.

ERR SENS UL or ERR SENS RO

  • A monitored sensor on the UL or Re-Open input is missing, faulted or not learned.
  • Check the 10K sensor wiring at the UL and Re-Open terminals.
  • Relearn: press Diagnose until UL LEARN shows, hold Stop and tap Diagnose once. The display shows how many sensors it found.

Gate stops: STOP BY OBSTRUCT or STOP BY OVERLOAD

  • Release the operator and check that the gate moves freely by hand.
  • Check the ODS (obstruction) sensitivity setting.
  • ERR FUSE means the motor fuse is blown. Replace it with the same rating.

Water and drainage

  • The chassis needs a drain line to an area drain. Standing water in the chassis can damage the motor.

Limits

  • The i-8 uses mechanical limits. The limit buttons on the board do not set limits on this model.

Common questions

A swing gate needs at least one monitored 10K sensor on the UL or Re-Open input. If there is an entrapment zone in the open direction, a sensor must be on UL. Wire them, then run the UL LEARN process from the Diagnose button.

Yes. Run a flexible drain pipe from the chassis to an area drain with enough slope that water does not collect around the motor.

No. Level the chassis both ways and align the pivot with the upper hinge before the concrete cures. Check it again before it sets.

The alarm sounds after a second obstruction in a row. Remove the obstruction and press the Alarm Reset button on the operator.
