Magnetic locks, or maglocks, hold a door or gate shut with an electromagnet and a steel armature plate. Protec Controls carries maglocks from Seco-Larm, BEA, Rosslare, DoorKing and All-O-Matic, from 80 lb to 1,500 lb holding force. The range includes weatherproof gate maglocks, double door models, door holders and the L, Z and U brackets to mount them.
Outdoor gates need a weatherproof maglock with a sealed housing. Seco-Larm gate models in the E-942FC and E-946FC side mount series offer weldable brackets that fit gate frames. If the magnet mounts on the moving gate, an armored door cord protects the wire from the post to the gate. DoorKing and All-O-Matic gate maglock kits are here too.
Most maglocks run on 12 or 24 VDC and can be set for either. Check the current draw against your power supply. Monitoring options include a bond sensor that reports when the plate is fully held, a door position sensor and a status LED. These tell the access control panel the door is truly locked.
On an out-swing door, the magnet mounts under the header on the secure side. An in-swing door needs an L and Z bracket set to bring the magnet and plate together. Frameless glass doors use a U bracket. Filler plates and header plates fix uneven gaps. Brackets are sized to the lock series, so match the 300, 600 or 1,200 lb series.
Yes. A maglock releases when power is cut, so it unlocks in a power loss unless the power supply has battery backup. Building and fire codes have rules for maglocks on exit doors, usually a request-to-exit sensor, a push-to-exit button that cuts power and fire alarm release. Check with the local authority before install.
A power supply, a request-to-exit device and an entry device. Find readers and keypads in keypads, intercoms and access control, exit sensors in door controls, and walk gate locks in pedestrian gate hardware.
