Non-Metallic Control Stations

Non-metallic control stations are outdoor push button stations in plastic enclosures rated NEMA 3R, 4 and 12. Protec Controls carries the 1BXT, 2BXT and 3BXT, the 3BXLT with a keyed lockout, and the 1MHC and 1MHL mushroom heads. Every button has both NO and NC contacts, so one station can match most operator inputs.
Each button in this group is double pole, with one NO set and one NC set. That makes the stop circuit a wiring choice, not a part number choice. Land the NC set on the stop terminal if the operator wants a normally closed stop, which most commercial operators do. Use the NO set if the diagram shows a normally open stop. The 3BXT and 3BXLT work either way. The 1MHC and 1MHL can be wired as a stop or a single command.
A plastic housing will not rust or pit, which helps at gate posts near irrigation or road salt. NEMA 4 covers rain, dust and hose-directed water. These stations are not rated 4X, so for food plants, car washes and chemical exposure look at NEMA 4X washdown stations. For a heavier metal housing see exterior metal stations.
The 3BXLT has a keyed On / Off switch. Turn it to Off and the buttons are dead. The lockout is its own circuit, so plan the extra wires in the conduit run.
The 1MHC springs back when released. The 1MHL latches and holds its contacts until someone resets it at the station.
Four: open, close, stop and common. Add two for the lockout on a 3BXLT. More choices are in all control stations and door controls.
