Description
The BD Loops BD-Megger is an analog megohmmeter (insulation tester) for checking inductance loops. It tests at 500 V and reads up to 1000 megohms. It finds the most common loop fault: a nick in the wire insulation that lets the loop short to ground. A multimeter checks continuity but cannot show this fault.
The needle points to a megohm value, so you get a number to record and compare over time, not just a pass/fail light. The gauge is color coded: green is good, yellow is questionable, red is bad. The meter also reads 0 to 600 V AC and has a battery check and a power lock for continuous testing. To test, connect one lead to the loop and the other lead to ground.

Before You Order
- Tests the loop and lead-in insulation. To check the detector, harness, and board connections, use the BD Loops E-Z Detector Checker.
- Disconnect the loop from the detector before testing.
- Log readings in the record booklet at install and at each service so a falling reading shows up early.
