Description
The BD Loops EL 32-60 is a preformed direct burial inductance loop with a 32 ft perimeter (4 ft x 12 ft or 6 ft x 10 ft) and a 60 ft lead-in. The loop section is solid 16 AWG copper wire with PE insulation inside a doped PVC outer jacket, with 2 to 4 turns depending on loop and lead-in size. It goes under concrete, asphalt or pavers, or in gravel and dirt roads, for vehicle detection at gates and doors.
The solid wire holds its shape, so in a concrete pour the loop stays on top of the rebar. The lead-in conductors are bound inside the jacket, so there is no twisting. A flex yoke with a 1/2 in coupler accepts PVC conduit for the lead-in run. There is no air pocket around the wire as with a loop pulled through PVC pipe, which cuts down on false detections from ground vibration. Each loop is tested 3 ways at the factory. The wire is rated for direct burial, 600 V and 167°F (75°C).
What's Included
- One BD Loops EL 32-60 preformed direct burial loop, 32 ft perimeter, with 60 ft lead-in attached
- Cable ties
- Ground stakes
- Lead-in labels
Before You Order
- Concrete: set the loop on top of the rebar or wire mesh, never below, offset from the pattern, and tie it down. Run the lead-in under the rebar.
- Pavers or asphalt: lay the loop in a 2 in wide, 3 to 4 in deep trench. Under asphalt, keep at least 1/8 in of sand between the loop and the hot asphalt. Gravel: bury it 7 to 10 in deep. BD Loops lists 14 in as the maximum depth.
- Choose the size by the area to cover (4 ft x 12 ft or 6 ft x 10 ft).
- The 60 ft lead-in must reach the loop detector without a splice. Run it in 1/2 in Schedule 40 or 80 rigid PVC with glued joints.
- A vehicle loop detector is required and is not included.
- Keep the loop 4 ft from the gate or door and 4 ft from other loops. Detection height is about 2/3 of the loop's short side.
- RL part numbers have a 40 ft lead-in and EL part numbers have a 60 or 100 ft lead-in. BD Loops lists RL for residential and EL for commercial installs.
- For saw-cut slots in existing pavement, use a BD Loops SC saw-cut loop instead.
- Extra layer of protection—Thick and durable outer jacket protects both loop and lead-in.
- Each loop is tested 3 ways before it leaves the factory.
- Lead-in wires are tightly bound in an protective outer jacket. Eliminating the need for twisting.
- Flex Yoke Design with 1/2” coupler to accept PVC conduit for protecting the lead-in run.
- The loop section is built with Solid 16AWG copper wire which makes it rigid and easy to form. In a concrete pour it won’t fall below the rebar pattern.
- Unlike loops wrapped through PVC conduit, BD Loops Direct Burial Loops do not have an air pocket resulting in fewer repeat service calls due to phantom detections caused by ground vibration.
- Every direct burial loop comes with zip ties for installation and loop function labels to label the lead-in wires for easy identification after installation.
