Door Interlock & Specialty Switches

Door interlock and specialty switches keep a commercial door operator from running when it is unsafe. Protec Controls carries the IS-1 for pass doors, the IS-2 for sectional doors, the IS-3 for rolling steel grilles and the ASX-1 explosion-proof pneumatic switch for air edges and treadles. They suit installers servicing commercial overhead doors.
The IS-1, IS-2 and IS-3 each have a normally closed contact that opens when the switch is tripped. Wire them in series with the operator stop or safety interlock input, not a command input. When the contact opens, the operator will not run. If you add more than one interlock, put them all in the same series loop. The ASX-1 works the other way. An air pulse from a pneumatic edge or treadle closes its normally open contact, so it lands on an NO input.
The IS series mounts on the interior side of the door. The ASX-1 sits in a steel enclosure rated NEMA 7 and 9 for hazardous areas, and needs sealed conduit fittings per code. The air hose and edge are sold separately, see safety edges.
An interlock is an automatic lockout: the door stays put until the pass door is shut or the lever is released. None of these switches has a key. For a keyed lockout at the button, see exterior metal stations.
Run a coil cord or flexible cable from the header to the IS-1, with enough slack for full travel.
The NC loop is open. Check that the pass door is fully closed and the switch is aligned. Parts for the rest of the door are in overhead door parts.
