Proximity card readers, prox cards, key fobs and long range vehicle tags for gates and doors. Protec Controls carries Securakey, AWID, Security Brands RemotePro and SecurePass, Seco-Larm, Rosslare, EMX and Keri. The lineup includes standalone readers, Wiegand readers, keypad and prox combos, and UHF windshield tags for HOAs, apartments, offices and commercial gates.
Cards and readers must share the same technology. Most gate and door prox systems run at 125 kHz. Smart cards run at 13.56 MHz and need a reader that supports that frequency. Long range vehicle systems use UHF in the 902 to 928 MHz band so a windshield or headlight tag can be read from the lane.
Readers pass card data to a controller over Wiegand. The 26-bit format is the most common open format and holds a facility code plus a card number. Other formats, such as 30-bit, 34-bit or 37-bit, only work if the controller supports them. When adding cards to an existing system, match the brand, format and facility code of the cards already in use.
Mullion readers fit narrow door frames. Single gang and post mount readers suit walls and gooseneck pedestals. Standard prox reads at a few inches. For drivers who don't want to roll down a window, long range readers and windshield tags read at a distance.
No. The card must match the reader's frequency and the card format the system expects. Check the reader model and an existing card before ordering more.
Both carry the same data. Fobs ride on a key ring and hold up well. Cards fit a wallet and can carry a printed photo ID.
Yes. A standalone reader wires to the operator's open input like a keypad does. For larger sites, see our full access control range.
