Bordes de seguridad

31 artículos

Safety edges are pressure-sensitive strips that mount on a gate, post or door and tell the operator to stop or reverse on contact. Protec Controls carries monitored and non-monitored gate safety edges from ASO, Miller Edge and LiftMaster in small and large profiles, with versions for mounting channel, round posts and 2 in. square posts. Lengths run from 40 in. to 6 ft.

How to Choose a Safety Edge for a Gate

    Monitoring and Resistance

A monitored edge has a resistor built into the circuit so the operator can confirm it is connected and intact. 10K ohm is the most common value. Some operators look for a different value, such as 8.2K, so read the operator's safety input spec and match it. Non-monitored edges are for older operators or for use through a monitoring interface.

    Profile

Small-profile edges fit tight spaces and short pinch points. Large-profile edges stand out farther from the gate, giving more travel to compress before the gate reaches the object. Heavier and faster gates benefit from the larger profile.

    Length and Mounting

    • Cover the full height of the edge you are protecting, from near the ground to the top of the pinch area.
    • Channel-mount edges slide into an aluminum or PVC channel screwed to the gate.
    • Round and square post edges wrap fence posts at fixed pinch points.
    • Connected sections join to cover longer runs.

Getting the Signal to the Operator

Edges on a fixed post wire straight to the controller. Edges on a moving gate need a coil cord or a wireless transmitter and receiver kit, listed under gate and door safeties.

    Common Questions

Do I need safety edges if I already have photo eyes?

Often, yes. Photo eyes cover the open span, but they cannot see every pinch point at posts, rollers and the trailing edge of a slide gate. UL 325 lets you mix device types as long as each entrapment zone is covered.

How do I test a 10K safety edge?

Disconnect it and read the leads with an ohmmeter. A good edge reads close to 10K at rest and drops sharply when pressed.

Where do edges go on a slide gate?

Common spots are the leading edge, the trailing edge, and the posts the gate passes. Your gate operator manual shows the entrapment zones for that install.
