Viking X-9 Manuals & Support

Viking X-9

This model is discontinued. The current replacement is the Viking VA-X390DLK - X-390 Dual Leaf Swing Gate Operator Kit. Manuals and replacement parts for existing units are listed below.

The Viking X-9 is a 1/2 HP, 24 VDC swing gate operator with a separate control box, sold as a single or dual gate set. Each leaf handles up to 14 ft and 600 lb.

Viking discontinued the X-9. The X-390 is the updated version. Manuals and parts for existing X-9 units are on this page.

Troubleshooting

Press the Diagnose button to scroll the LCD. Error messages show first, and the Diagnose LED flashes once for each error.

ERR SENS UL or ERR SENS RO

  • A monitored sensor on the UL or Re-Open input is missing, faulted or not learned.
  • Check the 10K sensor wiring at the UL and Re-Open terminals.
  • Relearn: press Diagnose until UL LEARN shows, hold Stop and tap Diagnose once. The display shows how many sensors it found.

Gate stops: STOP BY OBSTRUCT or STOP BY OVERLOAD

  • Release the operator and check that the gate moves freely by hand.
  • Check the ODS (obstruction) sensitivity setting.
  • ERR FUSE means the motor fuse is blown. Replace it with the same rating.

Limits and alarm

  • The X-9 uses mechanical limit switches. Adjust the limit cams; the limit buttons on the board do not set limits on this model.
  • A solid Siren LED means a second obstruction in a row. Clear it and press the Alarm Reset button.

Common questions

A swing gate needs at least one monitored 10K sensor on the UL or Re-Open input. If there is an entrapment zone in the open direction, a sensor must be on UL. Wire them, then run the UL LEARN process from the Diagnose button.

Viking replaced the X-9 with the X-390. For a dual gate, the X-390 Dual Leaf Kit (VA-X390DLK) is 24 VDC and handles each leaf up to 14 ft and 600 lb.

The X-9 uses mechanical limits. Move the gate to the open or close position and adjust the matching limit cam until the switch clicks.

The alarm sounds after a second obstruction in a row. Remove the obstruction and press the Alarm Reset button on the operator.
