How to Find the Right Gate Operator Replacement Part

Start With the Model and Serial Number

Every operator has a label inside the cover with the model and serial number. Write both down before you order. Many parts change with the production year. Viking control boards, for example, are split by logo color and year range, and DoorKing boards are matched to the operator model. If you have the number off the old part, search it in the EZ Parts Finder.

    Check for Superseded Part Numbers

Manufacturers retire part numbers and replace them with updated versions. When a listing shows a new part number, the newer part is the correct replacement. Some updated boards come as retrofit kits with a new harness or bracket.

    Match Voltage and Phase

    • Motors, brakes, transformers and motor boards are built for one voltage, such as 115V, 208/230V or 460V.
    • Single phase and three phase motors are not interchangeable.
    • DC operators use 24V motors, batteries and chargers. Do not mix AC and DC boards.

Replace Wear Parts Before They Fail

Drive wheels, chain, sprockets, idler wheels, belts, motor brushes and batteries wear with every cycle. On high-traffic commercial gates, keep a spare set on the truck. HySecurity hydraulic operators also need the right hydraulic fluid, hoses and valve coils.

    Common Questions

Can I use a universal board in place of the factory board?

Usually not. The factory board runs the limits, entrapment inputs and motor drive for that operator. A board from another brand will not wire in without major changes and can affect UL 325 compliance.

My operator is discontinued. Can I still get parts?

Often yes. Many older models still have motors, limit switches and drive parts available. When the board is discontinued with no replacement, it is time to look at new gate operators.

Where do I find photo eyes and loop detectors?

Photo eyes and edges are in gate and door safeties. Loop detectors and loops are under vehicle detection.
