Residential gate openers for driveway swing and slide gates. Protec Controls carries LiftMaster LA400 and LA500 arm kits, RSW12UL and RSL12UL operators, DoorKing 6100, 6300 and 6500 swing operators, and Linear SWR, SWD, SLR and SLD models. Homeowners and gate installers can find single gate kits, primary and secondary units, and DC models with battery backup.
A driveway gate on hinges needs a swing opener. A gate that rolls sideways on a track or rollers needs a slide opener. Measure the gate length and estimate its weight, then check both against the operator's limits. Tall solid gates catch wind and need more force than open picket gates of the same size. For more models, see all swing gate operators and slide gate operators.
A double driveway gate needs one operator per leaf. Order a primary unit, which holds the control board, and a secondary unit for the second leaf. Most brands also sell complete kits.
DC openers run from a battery that the charger keeps topped up, so the gate still opens when the power goes out. At homes with no power at the gate, a DC opener can run from a solar panel if the panel and battery are sized for your daily cycles and sun hours.
Homes fall under UL 325 Class I. Current operators need monitored photo eyes or safety edges before they run automatically, so plan on photo eyes for every entrapment zone.
It varies by model. Residential units are rated for normal family traffic. Busy shared driveways or small HOA gates usually need a commercial-rated operator.
Yes. Most residential openers have a built-in receiver or accept a plug-in receiver, and they have inputs for keypads and exit devices.
