Nice Apollo 816 Actuator Manuals & Support

Nice Apollo 816

The Nice Apollo 816 is a 12 VDC linear actuator for residential, farm and ranch swing gates up to 16 ft and 600 lb. It is the factory replacement arm for the Apollo 1500 and 1551 systems.

It runs on the 636, 936 or 1050 control board and opens in 14 to 16 seconds. The 816-1 is the primary arm with a 12 ft harness. The 816-2 is the secondary arm with a 42 ft harness.

Identify your model

The 816 is 42 in long retracted and 66 in extended, hole to hole. The 816-1 has a 12 ft harness and the 816-2 has a 42 ft harness for the far gate on a dual system.

The Titan 912L is a newer 12 VDC actuator that bolts to the same mounting points. See the Titan 912L support page.

Troubleshooting

The 1050 control board shows messages on its LCD. These are the common ones.

Dynamic M1, Static M1 or Overload

  • The actuator tripped the built-in current sensor or drew too much current.
  • Check for an obstruction in the gate path and for worn or binding gate hardware.

Hard Shut Down

  • The current sensor tripped twice in a row.
  • Clear the cause, then press the Reset or Hard Shut Down button to run again.

Photo Test FAIL, BlueBus Error or Min 1 Sensor for Swing Gate

  • Check that the photo eyes are connected, aligned and set with the correct jumpers.
  • A swing gate needs at least one external entrapment sensor connected and programmed.
  • If the number or type of BlueBUS sensors changed, redo the learn procedure.

Input STOP or Device Error

  • Input STOP: the STOP input is not connected to GND. Install the jumper or check the stop button wiring.
  • Device Error: check the position sensor wiring for each actuator, and make sure no input is active during the learn.

Limit problems

  • The 816 uses magnetic proximity limit switches in a limit tower. If limits drift or fail, replace the A2038 limit tower assembly.

Common questions

The 816-1 is the primary arm with a 12 ft harness. The 816-2 is the secondary arm for dual gates, with a 42 ft harness to reach the control box from the far gate.

It works with the 636, 936 and 1050 boards. On a 1050 board, set the motor type to 12 V, since the MB1050 comes set for 24 V.

Remove the caps from the limit screws on the actuator, then adjust the open and close limits while you cycle the gate from the control board. On dual gates, set the MOTOR 1 actuator first with MOTOR 2 unplugged.

The board stops after two current sensor trips in a row. Clear the obstruction, check the gate hardware, then press the Reset or Hard Shut Down button.
