Troubleshooting

Most problems are programming or phone line issues. Check power first, then the phone line.

Display or keypad dead

  • Check for 16.5 VAC at the power terminals.
  • Do not power strikes or magnetic locks from the entry system transformer.

No dial tone or calls do not go out

  • Check the phone line at the entry system with a test phone. The line must be a touch-tone, loop-start line.
  • On a DKS cellular or VoIP connection, check the service registration and the wiring to the phone line terminals.

Hum or noise on the line

  • Use twisted pair wire for the phone line and keep it away from power wiring.
  • Check the ground connection. An isolation transformer on the low voltage power can help.

Gate does not open from the resident phone

  • Check the tone open number programmed for each relay.
  • Check the relay strike time and the wiring from the relay to the gate operator.

Common questions

DoorKing no longer lists it. The 1802 is a current telephone entry system for small sites.

DoorKing lists a 16.5 V, 20 VA transformer for the 1803.

Mount it at least 6 ft from a gate or gate operator, or where the user cannot reach the gate while using it. Card readers on DoorKing's instructions call for 10 ft.
