DoorKing 6004 Manuals & Support

The DoorKing 6004 is a 24 VDC swing gate operator for residential gates up to 8 ft and 300 lb. It mounts on top of the gate column and runs from a DoorKing 4302 control box.

The control box comes in a 115 VAC version and a solar version, both with battery backup. The 6004 is UL 325 Class I and opens 90 degrees in about 18 seconds.

Identify your model

The 6004 is a column mount operator with an arm. It is wired to a separate 4302 control box, which holds the circuit board and batteries. Use the 4302 manual for the board settings and the 6004 manual for mounting.

The 6400 uses the same control box but mounts in the ground under the gate.

Quick Start

Troubleshooting

The 6004, 6006 and 6400 run from a DoorKing 4302 control box. Most problems are found at the control box, not the arm.

Operator will not run, power LED off

  • Check that AC power is on and the batteries are charged.
  • Check for 24 VAC at control box terminals 19 and 20. If it is good, check the terminal strip or replace the board.

Operator will not run, power LED on

  • At least one monitored photo eye or edge must be connected in each entrapment area, with its UL 325 switch on.
  • Jumper terminals 1 and 2 for a moment. If the input LED does not light, replace the board.
  • Check the fuses.
  • Test each arm by jumping the battery terminals to the motor terminals of its connector, then swap the wires. It should run both ways.

Gate opens a short distance, then reverses

  • Check the reversing sensitivity.
  • Disconnect the arm and check that the gate swings freely.

Gate opens but will not close

  • Any input LED that stays on holds the gate open.
  • Check photo eyes, edges and loop detectors.
  • For automatic close, check that SW 1, switch 4 is ON.

Works on and off

  • Main terminal 3 supplies 250 mA at most. Add up the draw of everything powered from it.
  • Replace the batteries about every two years.

Alarm sounding or chirping

  • This is a hard shutdown. Unlock the control box with the key, check the gate area, then press RESET or turn power off and back on.

Common questions

The 6004 runs from a DoorKing 4302 control box, either the 115 VAC box or the solar box. Both have battery backup.

About 20 cycles per hour on AC power. On battery alone the number of cycles varies with battery condition.

Yes. The operator will not run until at least one monitored photo eye or edge is connected in each entrapment area. They are not included.
