LiftMaster LA500 Manuals & Support

LiftMaster LA500UL

The LiftMaster LA500 is a 24 VDC linear actuator swing gate operator for residential and light commercial gates up to 18 ft or 1,600 lb. It opens 90° in about 17 seconds and is rated for 300 cycles per day.

Battery backup is standard, with up to 500 cycles or 24 days of standby. It has electronic limits, soft start and stop, wireless dual-gate communication and myQ. It is solar capable.

Identify your model

LA500PKGUL is the single gate kit with a standard control box. LA5001PKGXLMU adds the large metal XL box. LA500DCS is the secondary arm for a second gate.

Troubleshooting

To see codes, press and hold STOP, then CLOSE, then OPEN until "Er" shows on the diagnostic display. The display shows each saved code in order, starting with the most recent (01), up to 20 codes. Press STOP to exit.

Safety device codes

  • 60: the minimum monitored devices are not installed. A swing gate needs at least one external device in the open or close direction.
  • 61 to 66: a photo eye or edge was held more than 3 minutes. Check alignment, wiring and obstructions.
  • 70 to 75: a photo eye or edge tripped and reversed the gate. If nothing was in the way, check alignment, inputs and wiring.

Travel and motor codes

  • 35: max run time exceeded. Check for an obstruction, then reprogram the limits.
  • 50: run distance error. Check the limit positions and that the switches work.
  • 91: force reversal. Check that the gate moves freely, then recheck the force setting.
  • 93: RPM or stall reversal. Check the operator wiring and the APE encoder assembly.

Power and battery codes

  • 31: board failure. Remove all power for 15 seconds, then reconnect. Replace the board if it comes back.
  • 40 or 41: battery overvoltage or overcurrent. Make sure the battery voltage matches the system and check the charge harness.
  • 42: no battery at boot up. Check connections. Replace batteries that read below 20 V on a 24 V system.
  • 53: brownout. Check the supply wiring.

Loop and dual gate codes

  • 43 to 45: exit, shadow or interrupt loop error on a LiftMaster plug-in detector. Check the loop for a short or open.
  • 54: lost wireless link to the second operator. Check its power, then relearn the second operator.

Common questions

It needs at least one monitored external device in the open or close direction. Use LiftMaster monitored photo eyes or edges, such as the LMRRUL, LMTBUL or S505AL. Code 60 shows on the display until they are connected.

Press and hold STOP, then CLOSE, then OPEN until "Er" shows. Use OPEN and CLOSE to scroll through the last 20 codes, and press STOP to exit.

Two 7 Ah batteries give up to 500 cycles or 24 days of standby after a power loss. See the solar reference guide for solar sizing.

It has a Security+ 2.0 three-channel receiver for up to 50 remotes, such as the 811LM and 893MAX. Use the 811LMX or 813LMX for unlimited remotes.

Add the LA500DCS secondary arm. It connects to the primary control box with the 40 ft secondary cable.
