How to Find the Right Overhead Door Part

    Identify the Opener

The model number is on a label on the motor head, often near the light lens or end panel. LiftMaster logic boards and gear kits are specific to the drive type (chain, belt or screw) and to AC or DC motors. On LiftMaster openers, the color of the Learn button shows the radio type: yellow is Security+ 2.0 and purple is Security+ on 315 MHz. Order a board with the same radio so existing remotes keep working.

    Common Opener Repairs

    • Stripped gear: replace the full gear and sprocket kit.
    • Opener hums but the door does not move: check the gear, and the capacitor on AC motors.
    • Door reverses or will not close: check photo eye alignment and wiring before you replace the board.
    • Worn chain or belt: match the rail length, such as 7 ft or 8 ft.

    Commercial Door Hardware

For sectional and rolling steel doors, this category includes bottom, top and jamb seals, door stop molding, thresholds, cable drums, torsion spring saddles, hinges, track brackets, operator reinforcement brackets and chain hoists. Measure door width and height for seals, and note the shaft size for hoist and drum parts. Torsion springs and cable drums hold a lot of stored energy, so that work belongs to a trained door tech.

    Safety Devices

Since 1993, UL 325 has required residential garage door openers to have external entrapment protection, most often a pair of photo eyes. Commercial doors use photo eyes, light curtains or sensing edges. See photo eyes and safety edges for more options.

    Common Questions

Why does my garage door go back up after it touches the floor?

The close limit or force setting is usually off, or the door has become hard to move. Check the door balance with the opener disconnected, then reset the limits.

Will a new logic board work with my old remotes?

Only if the board uses the same radio type. Match the Learn button color, then program the remotes to the new board. Remotes are in transmitters and receivers.
