Linear HSLG Manuals & Support

Linear HSLG

The Linear HSLG is a heavy duty commercial and industrial slide gate operator with an integral APeX controller. It drives #40 chain through a double V-belt reduction with an adjustable torque limiter and a solenoid disc brake.

It comes in 1/2, 3/4 and 1 HP, single or three phase, for gates up to 55 ft and 1,700 lb. All models are rated for continuous duty.

Identify your model

The model number is on the label inside the cover, for example HSLG-121. The first digit after the dash is horsepower, the second is voltage and the third is phase.

  • Horsepower: 2 = 1/2 HP, 4 = 3/4 HP, 1 = 1 HP
  • Voltage: 1 = 115 VAC, 2 = 208/230 VAC, 4 = 460 VAC, 8 = 208 VAC
  • Phase: 1 = single phase, 3 = three phase

Have the model and serial number ready when you order boards or motors. Parts can differ between single and three phase units.

Older HSLG units built before the APeX controller use different boards and an older manual. The 2003 and earlier installation guides are not listed here; use the part numbers in the current manual to match parts.

Troubleshooting

The APeX display shows dashes at idle, St for stop, FC for full close, FO for full open and En for an entrapment lockout. Error codes show as En plus a number.

En 00: entrapment lockout

  • Two obstructions in a row locked the operator out and the beeper sounds.
  • Clear the obstruction and press STOP or the RESET button on the cover.

En 01 or En 02: max run timer

  • The gate ran longer than the max run timer on open (En 01) or close (En 02).
  • Check for a broken chain or belt and a slipping sprocket or pulley. Check the timer setting.

Motor runs but the gate does not move

  • Mark the sprocket and torque limiter with a grease pen and watch for slip. Tighten the torque limiter if it slips.
  • Check for a broken chain or worn belts.
  • Check setscrews on pulleys and sprockets and look for loose keys.

Gate stops part way or stays open

  • Check the board for a lit safety, reverse, shadow, obstruction or stop input. Disconnect devices one at a time to find a bad one.
  • Check the loop detector lights. Unplug the detector and try the operator.
  • Make sure the gate moves freely before you raise the current sensing.

Other codes

  • En 03: COMM LINK failure between paired operators. Check the 3-wire shielded cable.
  • En 05 or En 14: battery voltage dropped after AC loss. Battery voltage must rise above 24 VDC.
  • En 07: low AC voltage at the controller. Restore normal AC power.

Common questions

It needs at least two monitored safety devices, one for each direction of travel, before it will run. Approved devices include Miller Edge MGO20, MGR20 and MGS20 edges, the Miller Edge MIM-62 module, Omron E3K-R10K4-NR, Miller Edge RG-K-R and PG-K-R50 photo eyes, and EMX IRB-MON and IRB-RET photo eyes.

Two obstructions in a row lock the operator out and the beeper sounds. Clear the obstruction, then press STOP or the RESET button on the cover.

The max run timer ran out while opening (En 01) or closing (En 02). Look for a broken chain or belt or a slipping sprocket, and check the timer setting. Press STOP to clear it.

Connect the COMM LINK terminals A, B and C on both operators with 3-wire shielded cable (Belden 8760, Linear P/N 2500-1982). Set limits and entrapment settings on each operator alone first, then set both to dual gate.

Yes. Linear offers an in-cabinet heater: P/N 2510-262 for 115 VAC and 2510-273 for 208/230 VAC units. 460 VAC three phase units use P/N 2510-354.
