Description
The BD Loops SC 52-50 is a preformed saw-cut inductance loop with a 52 ft perimeter (6 ft x 20 ft) and a 50 ft lead-in. The loop and lead-in are 16 AWG copper wire with PE / nylon insulation inside a PE outer jacket, with 2 to 4 turns depending on loop and lead-in size. It installs in a 3/16 in saw-cut slot in asphalt or concrete for vehicle detection at gates, doors and parking entries.
The loop ships fully formed with the loop size and lead-in length set. The lead-in conductors are bound inside the jacket, so there is no twisting. The loop and lead-in fit the same 3/16 in groove, so the lead-in run does not need a second, wider cut. In a 3/16 in groove the jacket takes the place of backer rod, and BD Loops states it uses 30 to 40% less sealant than a 1/4 in groove. Each loop is tested 3 ways at the factory. The wire is rated 600 V and 167°F (75°C).

Before You Order
- Cut the slot 1-1/4 in to 1-1/2 in deep and at least 3/16 in wide, with 45° cuts at the corners. BD Loops allows a 3/4 in depth in indoor parking garages.
- Choose the size that matches your saw pattern (6 ft x 20 ft). Make the cut the same size or slightly smaller, never larger. Up to 2 ft of loop can be pulled into the lead-in slot, which shrinks the perimeter by up to 4 ft.
- The 50 ft lead-in must reach the loop detector without a splice. Measure the run first. Extra lead-in can be cut off.
- A vehicle loop detector is required and is not included.
- Seal the slot with loop sealant such as BD Loops BD-LS Loop Shield (sold separately). Do not use water-based sealant or runny crack filler.
- Keep the loop 4 ft from the gate or door. BD Loops calls for 5 to 6 ft on gates 20 ft and longer. Detection height is about 2/3 of the loop's short side.
- SC saw-cut loops come with 20, 50 or 100 ft lead-ins.
- For concrete pours, pavers or gravel, use a BD Loops RL or EL direct burial loop instead.
